Definition

Procedure text adalah teks yang menjelaskan how to do atau how to make sesuatu secara berurutan (step-by-step). Tujuan utamanya adalah memberikan panduan jelas sehingga pembaca dapat mengikuti langkah dengan benar.

Generic Structure

  1. Goal/Aim — menyatakan hasil yang ingin dicapai.
  2. Materials/Ingredients — daftar bahan atau alat yang diperlukan.
  3. Steps/Methods — langkah-langkah tindakan yang harus dilakukan.

Language Features

  • Penggunaan imperative sentences atau action verbs (e.g. Mix, Pour, Stir)
  • Biasanya menggunakan simple present tense pada instruksi
  • Urutan langkah ditandai oleh konektor seperti first, then, next, finally
  • Adverb of manner/time untuk menjelaskan cara atau durasi

Example

How to Make a Cup of Coffee

Goal: To make a cup of hot coffee.

Materials: 1 teaspoon coffee powder; 2 teaspoons sugar; hot water; a cup.

  1. Boil some water.
  2. Put coffee powder and sugar into the cup.
  3. Pour hot water into the cup.
  4. Stir well.
  5. Serve immediately.
